MacArthur Station

OAKLAND, CA—In addition to providing a unique transit-oriented development opportunity, 45 of the units at MacArthur Station Parcel B will be inclusionary residential units to provide affordable housing options. The mixed-use project developed by Boston Properties in partnership with McGrath Properties recently broke ground at 555 40th St.

BuildGroup is the general contractor. Designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz Architects and located in the Temescal neighborhood of Oakland adjacent to the BART station, the 324,000-square-foot building will be 24 stories high. The development will also provide 403 apartment units and 13,000 square feet of retail space. The project is expected to be complete by summer of 2020.

“In addition to the inclusionary housing, it is crucial that we build on existing transit infrastructure to combat the traffic issues the Bay Area is currently facing,” Nathan Rundel, BuildGroup's divisional president, tells GlobeSt.com.

Another Oakland project is also built on existing infrastructure. 777 Broadway is a mixed-use building consisting of retail shops on the ground floor, and one- and two-bedroom apartment homes above.

Behind the retail facade, CityLift Parking recently completed an automated parking project. CityLift designed and installed a 52-space four-level puzzle lift parking structure, with three levels above ground and one level in a pit. This parking structure makes exceptional use of space, provides safety and security for the residents' vehicles, and has a design that fits within the existing building's character. This is the first four-level puzzle lift with a pit in North America.
