ST. LOUIS—Senior Lifestyle Corp. has just opened a welcome center at 16100 Chesterfield Pkwy. West, Ste. 145, for The Sheridan at Chesterfield, the third senior living community it has under development in metro St. Louis. When completed, the developments will represent a roughly $72 million investment in new seniors' housing.
“Senior Lifestyle Corp. reviewed the St. Louis market with market studies and thorough market reviews and found a lack of supply for the growing seniors' population,” Anna Wynn, senior regional director of sales and marketing at SLC, tells GlobeSt.com. “Even though there were quite a few options in the suburban market, most were 15+ years old and had high occupancy.”
The newest building, which will total 84,000 square feet of finished space and rank as Chicago-based SLC's largest and most elaborate facility in the metro area, is taking shape on a 3.2-acre site in Chesterfield, a western suburb. It will host a combination of 62 assisted living apartments and 29 memory care units developed specifically to support those with dementia, including Alzheimer's. SLC plans to open it in late summer 2017.
The other Sheridan properties will open this spring. The first is The Sheridan at Laumeier Park at 12470 Rott Rd. in Sunset Hills, MO.; the second The Sheridan at Creve Coeur at 453 N. Lindbergh Blvd.
“While The Sheridan in Chesterfield shares a core identity with its sister communities in Creve Coeur and near Laumeier Park – a nurturing environment supported by the latest technology and advances in senior living design – its amenities are unique,” says Denise Niemann, executive director. The service array at the Chesterfield site will include a 24-hour concierge, a movie theatre and a communal space that is a coffee bar by day and a bistro by night.
Residents will have access to about 30,000 square feet of common area that will include gathering rooms, two dining rooms, a fitness center and an art studio. Additionally, internet technology will make it easy for residents to stay in touch with family and staff.
And for its memory care residents, SLC's Embrace program uses designated interior areas and outdoor gardens to directly address the symptoms of their dementia via a curriculum of cooking, aromatherapy, literature appreciation, gardening and other activities.
Brinkmann Constructors is the general contractor and Wiegmann Associates the mechanical contractor.
“We are excited to bring not only beautiful new communities to St. Louis families, but also the newest and award winning programming unmatched in the market,” Wynn adds. “St. Louis is a medical hub of the Midwest and we see The Sheridan's contributing to cutting edge healthcare with homelike atmospheres for St. Louis residents and their families.”
