Rick Fedrizzi

WASHINGTON, DC--Rick Fedrizzi is moving on from the US Green Building Council, but not very far, at least in terms of the type of work he will be doing and the type of organization he will be doing it for.

In November Fedrizzi will become CEO of the International WELL Building Institute, when he leaves USGBC. He has already joined the group as its chairman.

IWBI is a sustainability movement that focuses on building occupants' health and well being as a metric. The association administers the WELL Building Standard, which was created after seven years of research and development incorporating the research of physicians, scientists, and industry professionals. IWBI has also launched a WELL Accredited Professional program.

Fedrizzi, who co-founded the US Green Building Council twelve years ago while he was environmental marketing director at United Technologies Corp., gave plenty of notice to USGBC, announcing his intention to leave last summer. There is a great deal of overlap between the two organizations and their respective standards, he said.

"Our buildings and communities should help humans thrive,” Fedrizzi says in a prepared statement. “Sustainability plus health is a powerful lens through which to view the world, and WELL has approached this goal in a similar way to how we developed the LEED green building program."
