CHICAGO—The Great Lakes Region of Ryan Companies US, Inc. has just begun construction of Clarendale of Mokena, a $31.7-million, 156-unit, age-restricted senior living community in Mokena, IL, a southwest suburb of Chicago. The project will be the first senior living community in Mokena and will offer independent living, assisted living and memory care.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on August 13 on the 11.4-acre site at 21536 S. Wolf Rd. and was also attended by other members of the development team that includes Chicago-based Harrison Street Real Estate Capital, community manager Life Care Services, An LCS Company and state and village officials.

“Ryan's goal is to offer an appreciably different and distinct choice for residential and supportive care options to older adults who wish to continue comfortable, connected and secure living in the area they call home,” says David Erickson, director of development for Ryan. “We believe Clarendale of Mokena will create opportunities for residents to retain and, in the event of needed supportive services or memory care, restore an already treasured way of life with more ease, peace of mind and value.”

When complete the three-story building will provide three types of care under one roof – 60 independent living residences, 56 assisted living residences and 40 memory care residences, as well as common areas for dining and activities.

Residents in the independent living section can choose from one-bedroom, one-bedroom deluxe, one-bedroom plus den, two-bedroom and two-bedroom deluxe floor plans – with approximate sizes ranging from 725-square-feet to 1,300-square-feet. Assisted living residents will choose from studio and one- and two-bedroom apartments ranging in approximate size from 440-square-feet to 875-square-feet; memory care residences will be studio apartments of approximately 300-square-feet to 364-square feet.

Des Moines, IA-based Life Care Services will manage the community. Founded in 1971, Life Care Services manages over 120 communities across the US and is the third largest manager of senior living properties in the country. The project's architect is ElnessSwenson Graham Architects, Inc., of Minneapolis. The developers plan on opening in fall 2015.
