ATLANTA—If you haven't noticed, diversity is become a buzzword in the commercial real estate industry. In fact, there's a conscious emphasis on diversity in the industry.

Larry Link, the president of Level Group, a residential and commercial real estate firm based in New York City, agrees racial, gender and cultural diversity is a major hot button topic. He tells GlobeSt.com Issues like marriage equality and North Carolina's bathroom bill are being thrust into the national spotlight and everyone is taking sides.

What is the impact? Big dollars are at stake.

“The NCAA and ACC have both pulled their championship games out of North Carolina recently, and with it, millions of dollars in tourist and tax dollars have gone up in smoke,” Link says. “Cities and states which do not embrace diversity will see their citizens leave, their employers shut down, and new business dry up as companies and organizations direct their business to more open-minded areas.”

With that in mind, who will be the winners in as purposeful diversity rises? Link says companies and cities which embrace diversity with be rewarded in so many ways, including more business, better and more favorable brand recognition, better access to the best employees, longer term employee retention and higher satisfaction among users, employees and citizens.
