LOS ANGELES—Brokerage firm Charles Dunn has named 15-year industry veteran David Pinsel as president of brokerage services. He joins the firm from Colliers International, where he served as managing director. In this new role, Pinsel will lead and execute the 95-year-old firm's substantial expansion and recruiting strategy.
Pinsel has a storied career as a top broker and recruiter. He began his career at Marcus & Millichap in 2001, and has since held leadership positions at Sperry Van Ness and Colliers International, where he most recently grew the firm's North Texas team from 16 brokers to 80. His new position at Charles Dunn will allow him to leverage that experience to grow the firm. “This was an opportunity for me to take a leadership role in the company,” Pinsel tells GlobeSt.com. “I was brought here to grow the company and to create an inviting culture for brokers and staff to come. I really have the opportunity here to put a stamp on it, as opposed to being just one of the senior executives. They are challenging me with taking the company forward in its evolution, and I relish that path.”
Pinsel says that “collaboration” and “expansion” are the buzzwords for the firm's growth goals, noting that this is a key time in the industry to execute this strategy and move forward. “There has been a lot of consolidation and mergers, and I think there has been a lot of displacement with brokers,” he adds. “I see that as an opportunity for those that may feel like their position in their company has changed or the company has gotten too big, too corporate or too restricting. They are going to look for a place where they can run their business in a more entrepreneurial manner. That is really what we are looking for.”
Recruiting brokers will be the key to the firm's growth strategy, but they are looking for collaborative partners and people with an entrepreneurial spirit. “I need collaborative builders,” says Pinsel. “That is the best way to describe the right person for Charles Dunn. I need collaborators, and I think that is the way the world is going. We are really looking to grow the company. Charles Dunn has been around for a very long time. It has great brokers and great bones, but I have been brought here to grow it. The word entrepreneurial is something that will come up a lot in what we are looking for. We give people here freedom to create their ideal situation, as long as they are doing it ethically and within the bounds of the company. We attract that type of person.”
Before they launch their recruiting efforts, Pinsel says that he will be focused on bolstering the firm's infrastructure, which includes both technology and practices. “We need to bolster our infrastructure and broker support so that we cannot only compete with the global firms but so that we can exceed our internal customer service to our customers,” he explains. “That is our number one priority. Once that is accomplished, the recruiting part of it becomes much easier.”
