Indoor Outdoor Retail

DALLAS—Following on the heels of its successful mixed-use project, Dallas-based development company, Oaxaca Interests, has plans to redevelop the old W&B Refrigeration Service Company building into a creative dining and retail space. The original brick and metal former refrigeration company structure as well as its former loading areas will be transformed into a family- and pet-friendly indoor-outdoor destination. The building is located at 660 Fort Worth Ave. (at Yorktown Street) next door to Oaxaca's flagship Sylvan | Thirty mixed-use development.

“We hope to build off the momentum we've created with Sylvan | Thirty to create a new place for diverse communities to gather with family and friends,” said Brent Jackson, president of Oaxaca Interests. “The flexibility of the space, as well as its indoor and outdoor components, is perfectly suited for a food hall or beer garden.”

The firm is seeking two to five tenants for the 10,000-square-foot project situated on 1 acre. GlobeSt.com learns that the project is targeting food artisans and smaller food-related retailers as tenants for the space.

“We've strategically acquired properties around the Sylvan | Thirty area to help mold the developments around us and ultimately capitalize on the growth which we've found to be encouraging,” Jackson tells GlobeSt.com.

Architect Lake Flato and landscape architect Hocker Design Group will join forces once again to lead the development's design. Both firms previously collaborated on Sylvan | Thirty.

Sylvan | Thirty, located at the intersection of Sylvan and Fort Worth Avenues, includes more than 200 studios and lofts, local retailers and a local organic grocery market with farm fresh produce, artisan breads and a butcher. With farmers markets, public art displays by local artisans and many community events, the center always offers a hub of activity in the community.

Earlier this year, Sylvan | Thirty became the first commercial development in West Dallas to earn the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design/LEED Certification for its green construction and development practices, GlobeSt.com learns. The USGBC recognizes buildings, homes and communities that are designed and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.
