Detroit-area REIT to Build Florida Shopping Center

Ramco-Gershenson is prepping a 51,420-sf store for Publix.

SOUTHFIELD, MI—Ramco-Gershenson Properties Trust of Southfield, MI, has signed a lease with Publix Supermarkets to build a new 51,420-sf store at Sunshine Plaza, a 250,000-sf community shopping center in Tamarac, FL. Publix’s existing 37,000-sf store will be demolished to make way for the expanded facility. An exterior renovation of the existing shopping center is also planned. The redevelopment of the center will to be complete in the spring of 2001.

Sunshine Plaza is located at the intersection of US 441 and Commercial Blvd., approximately seven miles northwest of Downtown Ft. Lauderdale. The center’s trade area extends about nine miles, with current estimates projecting household income to increase by 19% over the next five years. Ramco-Gershenson has a portfolio of 55 shopping centers, with approximately 10.9 million sf of gross leasable area, located in Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Florida.
