The project is estimated to cost about $54 million. Tax abatements will be used to help finance the hotel, while tax increment financing will be in place for construction of the office/commercial area, according to W. Robert Comp Jr., a managing partner of Highland Pointe and LaVert Murray, the Kansas City, KS, Unified Government director of development.

"We have a prime location," Comp asserts. "The hotel will be full service. The tenants in the commercial buildings will be in a great position, and we expect to be able to charge premium prices."

Highland Pointe is a joint venture of three companies: Sandifer Leasing, owner of the property; Entrust, a hotel company; and Naunpareil, a development consulting company from Springfield, MO.
