Renovations Blossom in Low-Tech and High-TEch Properties.

SAN DIEGO—Roel Construction has been busy this month, wrapping up one major project and winning a contract to be another. The locally based construction company has nearly finished a $13.5-million renovation of the former Veteran’s Administration building in Mission Valley. The 10-story building at 2020 Camino del Rio, redubbed Plaza 2020, was completely remodeled, with a new facade added and a new architectural design. Other improvements included upgrades to mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.David Blackburn of Property Systems is the developer and Russell Stout &Associates is the architect. Neece Commercial is handling leasing and expects full occupancy this month.Meanwhile, Roel has won the contract to do tenant improvements for San Diego-based online music provider MP3.com, the main tenant in the now-complete first phase of Bridge Point Corporate Centre at 4780 Eastgate Mall. Completion is slated for mid-September.The first phase of Bridge Pointe includes four two-story buildings totaling 215,800 sf. At build out, Bridge Pointe will be a $90-million office project of nine buildings totaling 591,000 sf. The project is being built in four phases on 60 acres.The owner is Menlo Park-based Spieker Properties. San Diego-based Austin Veum Robbins Parshalle is the architect.
