Author Louise Erdrich Opens Minneapolis Bookstore

MINNEAPOLIS - Well-known author Louise Erdrich has opened Birchbark

Birchbark Books, Herbs and NativeArts recently opened in the exclusive Kenwoodneighborhood of Minneapolis. The 1,000-sf store, whichis owned by Louise Erdrich, author of such novels as Love Medicine and The Beet Queen,will showcase a wide variety of books, Indian arts andculture, and herbs.

Ray Burns, the store’s manager says that he hopes it will spawn other similar independent bookstores in the Twin Cities. Located in a former meat market, the bookstore at 2115 W. 21st St. is in one of the onlycommercial areas in Kenwood, which is also home to theGuthrie Theater.
