AT&T’s decision to sell a 275,000-sf building and 27 acres in a prime business park could trigger a bidding war among corporations jockeying to headquarter in Denver, where space is rapidly becoming a commodity.

Area real estate brokers believe Denver-based AT&T Broadband and Internet Services could reap as much as $50 million for the premier Meridian Business Park property. Not only is it rare for corporate headquarters to come on the market, but large tracts of land for development into corporate campuses are at a premium. That and its location – in the fastest-growing office park in the metro area – make it a prime deal in the Denver market.

The Douglas County two-story circular structure, completed two years ago, fell into AT&T’s hands with the 1998 TCI Cable acquisition. The building at 9197 S. Peoria St. is one of 11 owned by AT&T as a result of the TCI takeover and June’s MediaOne Group buyout. Meanwhile, AT&T Broadband is looking to set up a corporate campus in MediaOne’s building in the Inverness office park, south of the Denver Tech Center. The MediaOne building can accommodate up to 800 people – 200 more than the Meridian site.
