In recent years, some observers have said that the OSCS has not been an effective tool for development. Hill says he recognizes the challenges he faces and sees tremendous opportunity to help local businesses. "I look forward to taking this organization from where it is today to where it can and should be, a viable small business tool," he notes. "I want to meet local business owners and talk about their needs. I want them to know the One Stop is there for them and can provide the assistance they need."

A Flint, MI, native, Hill is a board member of the Flint Community Development Corp., the Economic Development Corporation Genesee County, Flint/Genesee Corporation for Growth, Pontiac Commercial and Industrial Development Corp, Michigan Micro Enterprise Statewide Network and UP Inc.

One Stop was created by the Small Business Administration under enabling federal law that established the Detroit's empowerment zone. It is a nonprofit corporation which provides local entrepreneurs with access to small business assistance, such as free business counseling, financial advise from lenders, government contracting assistance and seminars.
