The Bergers' lawyer says his clients have opened discussions with Sheraton, Hilton and Loews, but they are willing to go back to the table with Marriott. A Marriott International executive has confirmed the breakdown in negotiations, but is declining further comment citing a confidentiality agreement.
Designed to be the state's largest hotel, the deal controls whether a $268 million expansion to the convention center proceeds. November voters approved the expansion contingent upon a developer constructing a new hotel in the vicinity. The Denver Urban Renewal Authority has granted a $55 million subsidy to the Bergers for the hotel project.
