Kohl's Crashing Atlanta Retail Market

ATLANTA-Hoping to dip into the area's retail pot of gold, the 259-unit Milwaukee retailer has broken ground on the first of two planned stores tentatively scheduled to open in spring 2001.

Atlanta’s south metro counties are the sites of Kohl’s Department Stores Inc.’s two planned stores tentatively scheduled to open in spring 2001. The stores will be in Stockbridge, Henry County, in the 300-acre, mixed-use SouthCrest development; and in Fayetteville, Fayette County, on a 55-acre tract adjacent to a retail complex that includes Tinseltown U.S.A. and Cinemark Theaters.

The 38-year-old company currently operates 259 department stores. Kohl’s posted $4.6 billion in sales in FY1999. The firm is headquartered in Menomonee Falls, a Milwaukee suburb.
