The Gart family has had a sports retailing presence in Colorado for about a century, owning more than 50 specialty sports shops. Most are ski rental shops situated in mountain ski resorts such as Aspen, Vail, Breckenridge, Keystone and Telluride. Ken Gart, president, told GlobeSt.com that the company plans to do with Bicycle Village what it has done in the past: adding "good capital, good management and good infrastructure." He says employees typically are given benefits such as insurance and 401k plans as incentives.

Jim Sullivan, chairman of SullivanHayes Cos., the largest retail brokerage and development firm in Denver, says the Gart family is a great fit for Bicycle Village. "The Garts have a long heritage of retailing," Sullivan said in an interview with GlobeSt.com.

Schurig says he was approached by several suitors, but settled on Gart because it "can take it (Bicycle Village) to the next level.
