Reflecting continuing improvement in the economy and healthy tourism, the overall average daily room rate for the county was $132.37, up 4.3% from the $126,86 of.June 1999. Occupancy was a whopping 81.28%, up 4.5% from the 77.81% posted in June 1999.

The most expensive areas were those popular with tourists—La Jolla, North Coastal and San Diego Bay—with ADRs of $192.58, $184.62 and $184.16, respectively, says Bruce Baltin, senior VP of PKF Consulting.

The only area with an occupancy rate below 75% was the area's least expensive hotel market, South Bay. The area had a June 2000 ADR of $63.20, 5.3% below the $66.74 recorded in June 1999, and it had a June occupancy rate of 69.94%, 4.4% above the 67.02% for June 1999.

Downtown, also a popular tourist destination, had a June ADR of $130.93, up just 0.2% from the $130.63 of June 1999, while the occupancy level was 85.26%, up 3.8% from the 82.18% of June 1999.
