It will follow Longs drug store, which closed on June 9. Longs operated for 33 years in that location.
Vista, Calif.-based Pan Pacific Retail Properties handled Longs' lease and now is handling MacFrugal's lease. A company source said that the area is ripe for a discount store and that the new MacFrugal's will serve the needs of Hayward's diverse population.
Pan Pacific has MacFrugal's stores in six of its shopping centers, with all performing well, the source said.
