Work crews building the new Midfield Terminal at Detroit Metro Wayne CountyAirport recently held a topping out ceremony as part of NorthwestAirlineÕs construction of the new facility.The ceremony marks the end of the structural steel phase of construction onthe terminalÕs main East Concourse. Iron workers signed the final steel beamand lifted it into place on top of what will be the north end of theTerminalÕs mile-long main concourse, which will offer more than 120 gatesfor the companyÕs jets.The $1.2 billion Midfield Terminal construction is about three and a halfyears through a five-year design and construction process. Its targetfor completion is December 2001.
