Although fatal on-the-job accidents in the region have been increasing every year since 1996, this year's toll is the worst by far. Dwight Foster, executive director of the Associations of Builders and Contractors Institute in Boca Raton, says construction activity has grown at such a tremendous rate that it has outpaced the ability of many building-related firms to properly train their new hires.
