Council Tries to Sober Skid Road

SEATTLE-The City Council wants Pioneer Square retailers to voluntarily stop selling cheap liquor between midnight and 2 a.m. If they don't comply, a mandatory ban is next on the agenda for the gentrifying area.

The Seattle City Council this week voted unanimously to ask shops and liquor stores in Pioneer Square to voluntarily stop selling specific types of cheap, potent alcohol between midnight and 2 a.m.

If an assessment in three months shows voluntary compliance lacking, city officials will ask the state Liquor Control Board to make the midnight rule mandatory in the increasingly gentrified area that was the original Skid Road.
