Home Depot Inc. has broken ground for a 116,000-sf store at the northwest corner of Orchard Road and Indian Trail in Aurora, a suburb located about 40 miles west of Chicago. The company plans to build an adjacent 17,000-sf garden center on 20.5 acres and employ about 200 workers. Home Depot plans to open its store #1957 by spring 2001.

Stephens Commercial Real Estate brokered the transaction, and general contractor for the project is Henry Brothers Construction. David Delach is real estate manager for Home Depot’s Western Great Lakes division.

Home Depot is building in an area that the Aurora Economic Development Commission describes as the “Orchard Road Corridor.” The city is currently experiencing a residential real estate boom and the demand for retail services has increased with it.
