J. Calnan Associates has been retained as construction manager for the addition. Symmes Maini & McKee of Cambridge is serving as architect, and the Carey Group is acting as the owner's agent. The Lakeville construction team has also been hired to renovate Talbots' headquarters property.

The distribution center will be used to buttress Talbots' aggressive growth plan, which was recently outlined by chairman Arnold B. Zetcher. Besides an anticipated increase in catalog and Internet sales, the company has launched its Vision 2000 program that calls for more than 1,150 stores and $2 billion in annual sales by the end of 2005. At the end of its most recent fiscal year, Talbots was operating 673 stores and had revenues of approximately $1.3 billion.
