Pleasanton and the surrounding cities of Livermore and Dublin have been particularly hard-hit this summer by brownouts, since Pacific Gas & Electric has had trouble keeping up with the rapidly-growing area.

The 45-megawatt Pleasanton Local Reliability Facility is proposed for a 1-acre site at Valley Avenue and Stanley Boulevard leased by Kiewit Construction Co. The facility would connect to a local PG&E transmission line.

Since PG&E plans to improve service in the area are at least three years away, the facility would remain active until that time. However, city planners say they would like to see it active beyond that point in order to further serve commercial and residential buildings.
