The fire broke out late Saturday night. It caused more than $1 million in damage and leveled 24 units, as well as the complex's community center.

Flames shot more than 100 feet in the air from the site, on Irvine Boulevard between Jamboree and Culver roads. Chunks of burning debris rained down on some neighboring condominiums, forcing the evacuation of more than 100 people.

The unfinished complex, called Solana, was slated to open by the end of this year. A spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority says investigators hope to determine the cause of the blaze soon.
