Surprisingly, the area that has the least commercial office space available is not Downtown Stamford. Instead the central submarket consisting of Fairfield, Southport and Westport recorded the lowest overall vacancy rate for commercial office space at 1.4%.

Another noteworthy is that the Bridgeport, Shelton, Stratford and Trumbull section of the county posted a 9.9% vacancy rate, a decline of more than 50% during the past six months. Also, the commercial investment sector has mirrored last year's activity. C&W reports that there were 10 recorded sales of major office buildings in Fairfield during the first half of 2000 as compared with 11 by mid-year 1999.
