The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America is building a 10-story trophy class office tower on the site, which it owns. It is being advised by American Realty Advisors and Julien J. Studley Inc. is handling the leasing. Shalom Baranes is the architect.
Van Scoyoc currently occupies 1420 New York Ave. It will move into part of the sixth floor of the new building starting in May on a 10-year lease. It also has options to expand, says Vernon Knarr, a broker with Julien J. Studley.
The United Brotherhood will occupy the top floor. The American Council of Life Insurance has already leased 150,000 sf on the seventh through ninth floors and part of the sixth. Studley is marketing the building to lobbying groups, media companies and law firms that want to be close to the Capitol.
