The three-story, 176,000-sf building will stand near the suburban Tempe headquarters of Motorola Computer Group, part of the high-tech giant's Integrated Electronic Systems Sector. The site, at 2900 S. Diablo Way, is adjacent to Interstate 10 and just north of State Highway 60.

When complete, the new addition will house 1,000 employees. At least 400 of them will be new hires.

"Over the next year, we're expecting to double our telecommunications business," says Wayne Sennett, senior vice president and general manager of Motorola Computer Group. "Expanding our headquarters will enable us to keep the pace in providing the embedded solutions our customers need to quickly bring their products to market."

Phoenix-based Sundt Construction Inc. is building the addition, would should be finished by the first quarter of 2002. Currently, the Motorola Computer Group complex includes both office and manufacturing space for about 1,700 workers.
