The new building will be located at UCSF's main Parnassus Heights campus. Morse Diesel International Inc. will manage construction of the five-story, $35 million project.
Groundbreaking is slated for early 2001, but no official completion date has been set. Morse has managed several other UCSF projects during the past eight years, including the Mt. Zion Cancer Research Center, Biomedical Teaching Facility and Silver Laboratory.
UCSF is also building a second campus across town at Mission Bay, near San Francisco's waterfront and the new Pacific Bell Park. Earlier this month, steelworkers raised the final beam on the project's first building, a 385,000-sf structure that will be used for research purposes.
