Redevelopment Bill Passes, 40-0

LOS ANGELES-In boost for Valley secessionists, measure would give newly created cities authority over their redevelopment projects.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY-In the latest installment in the great LA secession saga, the Legislature has approved a measure that would grant newly created cities authority over their own redevelopment districts.

Senate Bill 1375, sponsored by state Sen. Richard Alarcon, D-Van Nuys, was aimed at cities that could be created if the San Fernando Valley and San Pedro-Wilmington areas secede from LA. Without such a measure, Los Angeles officials would still control all redevelopment projects even if the San Fernando Valley and San Pedro voted to incorporate into their own cities.
