The 61-year-old garden, one of the Valley's most popular tourist spots, has started on a major renovation that will include a more efficient entrance, a desert studies center, a research, horticulture and propagation facility, and a reception hall and gallery. Existing facilities will also be improved, with expanded exhibit space and upgrades to an auditorium.

The Desert Botanical Garden features hundreds of cacti and other succulents and is one of the few botanical gardens accredited by the American Association of Museums. The garden lies in the heart of Phoenix, just north of the Phoenix Zoo.

Locally based Kitchell Contractors has been selected as the general contractor for the project.
