U Village Preps for Another Expansion

SEATTLE-The outdoor, upscale shopping center that was rebuilt in the 1990s is preparing to expand again, adding a parking garage, better access for cars, bikes and pedestrians and 107,000 square feet of new retail shops

University Village is preparing to add a parking garage, better access and 107,000 sf new retail shops.

The improvements to the outdoor, upscale shopping center are to be added in three phases beginning by early 2002, following a series of public hearings on the plan.

A 600-stall garage will be built at the north end of the center, giving the shopping center a total of 2,000 parking spaces. To ease traffic congestion, the shopping center will add turn lanes at the 25th Avenue Northeast and Northwest Blakeley Street entrances to the village.
