McElveen,who was the Metropolitan Council's community development director, will start the new job Sept. 11. The association said it hopes McElveen's understanding of industry and government will help the association achieve its goal of advocating higher-density development in the metropolitan area.
McElveen said he would advocate for solutions that``recognize the relationship between land availability and the cost of new housing.''
