Owners of the Samovar Restaurant in the Central OC community of Tustin, tired of the cutthroat hash-slinging business, would essentially raffle their restaurant off. Each entry would cost $150, and the person who wrote the winning essay—"Why I Always Dreamed of Owning a Restaurant in the Heart of Orange County"—would get the restaurant and $25,000 cash.
The media jumped all over it, but no one else did. The owners said Friday that they have canceled the raffle/contest because not a single entry was received.
The owners, Fawad and Shanaz Siddiq, weren't available for comment. A statement issued by their attorney announced the end of the raffle because no one had entered it.
"The contest hadn't progressed the way they'd wanted it to," Orange County lawyer Michael Varisco said.
