``For years no one has been interested in looking at The Power & Light Building because they thought they would have to turn around and move out,'' said Steve Brettell, of Grubb & Ellis/The Winbury Group. ``Now with all the delays[in the redevelopment project], they are saying, let's go ahead and move in. I have leased 60,000 square feet in there just this year, which is a huge turnaround for the building.'' Power & Light is now about 70 percent occupied.
The latest tenant to move into the 231,000 square foot building is the Berkebile Nelson Immenschuh McDowell Inc. architectural firm. The company singed a new lease for 26,751 square feet.Brettell represented the building owners. Ned O'Connor of MC Real Estate Services handled the negotiation for Berkebile.
The 70-year-old Power & Light Building is the icon for Kansas City's downtown skyline and has been called the finest example of an Art Deco west of the Mississippi.
