Clarendon Gets Hot With Developers

Renewed interest in vibrant urban neighborhoods is driving a wave of residential development in the Clarendon section of Arlington County. Developers are building, preparing to break ground or seeking approval for about 1,000 residential units in this community centered around an Orange Line Metro stop, says Thomas Fairchild, executive director of the Clarendon Alliance, a public-private partnership chartered by the county to promote economic development.

“It has a combination of location, accessibility with the Metro and a large number of one-of-a-kind retail establishments that offer a comfortable community living experience,” Fairchild says. The neighborhood has a residential vacancy rate of less than 0.1%, according to the Alexandria real estate research firm Delta Associates.
