Disease Control Centers Agency Plans Billion-Dollar Expansion

ATLANTA-The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention draws up short list of six contractors and five architects for 10-year capital improvement program.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is embarking on a $1 billion, 10-year expansion and renovation program for two Atlanta campuses. The plan calls for doubling the current research space to 2.2 million sf.

Among the first buildings to go up will be a 300,000-sf laboratory and a 175,000-sf communications center. With the additional space, the agency plans to consolidate employees presently housed in rented office space. The locations are the CDC headquarters complex a few miles east of Downtown Atlanta, and the Chamblee campus about 12 miles northeast of the city.
