Huge Mixed-Use Development Gets Glowing Reviews From KC City Planners

KANSAS CITY, MO- 1,500 acre Shoal Creek Valley project gets nod from Planning, Zoning & Economic Development Committee. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints behind the development.

One of the largest mixed-use residential and commercial areas to be proposed in Kansas City for many years has received the nod from the Planning, Zoning & Economic Development committee.

The Shoal Creek Valley plan calls for the transformation of more than 1,500 hilly, tree-filled Kansas City, North acres into houses, stores and offices. The land is located between Interstates 435 and 35, along both the north and south sides of Missouri Highway 152. The proposal is being submitted by a group associated with the Church of Jesus Christ ofLatter Day Saints.

The project follows the recommendations of Kansas City’s FOCUS masterplan that encourages new urbanism, with an emphasis on neighborhoods near services and walking over driving. Projections put the number of potential new residents for the area at about 15,000 over the next 20 to 30 years.
