Monies will be used to remodel the top two floors of Wahl Hall East on the campus, located just across the Missouri/Kansas state line and a few miles from downtown Kansas City. The new construction will nearly double the size of the existing kidney research center.
``We will be able to house the research center all in one building, whereas now the research areas are spread out all over the campus,''said Bob Hallinan, a KU Med Center public relations official.
An architectural firm is being sought for the project.
Plans call for construction to be completed by the winter of 2002. The construction grant was one of a series of grants worth more than $15 million recently awarded to the Kidney Institute at KU Med.
