Telecom Company Tackles Triangle Market

RALEIGH, NC-With backing from a New York investment firm, Greenville, SC-based NewSouth Communications has decided that North Carolina's Research Triangle is where it wants to invest $15 million over the next year.

NewSouth Communications of Greenville, SC plans to invest $15 million in the Research Triangle over the next year. About $5 million would be spent on developing a regional sales force and data services operation. The remaining $10 million would go for a switching station, the facility that routes Internet and voice traffic.

. This expansion into the Triangle and other Southeast markets has been made possible by a $170 million round of financing led by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., the New York firm that orchestrated the RJR Nabisco takeover in the late 1980s.
