Owner Charles E. Smith Cos. of Arlington began work on a complete renovation of the property into a class A building after the Federal Communications Commission moved out. Work on the 275,000-sf building is expected to be finished in the third quarter. Rents are in the $40 per sf range.

Insignia/ESG represented the tenant; Smith spoke for itself.

The former FCC headquarters wasn't the first place that Conservation International expected to lease. It had been negotiating at 4501 Connecticut Ave. NW but the funding fell through, says Mark Teitelbaum, an Insignia broker that represented the tenant.
