If Enron gets clearance from the NC Utilities, it would be the company's entry to North Carolina, giving it a toehold in the state if and when its energy market is opened to competition.
The undetermined amount of land for the plant would be annexed by Rocky Mount, and the plant would supply the city with an estimated $300,000 a year in property taxes.
A potential block to the deal is N.C. Natural Gas Corp. which serves the Rocky Mount area. N.C. Natural Gas has not yet agreed to provide the city with the additional gas needed to fuel the plant.
