Officials want to build a facility similar to its 240,000 square foot structure now open at 119th Street and Metcalf Avenue. Representatives and developers from Block & Co. want to construct a building that will have a 60,000 square foot exhibit hall, a 15,000 square foot ballroom and a 6,000 square foot conference center.
Developers want to add retail and office space, as well as upscale restaurants to the site. Plans also call for the construction of a 200 room hotel. The Gift Mart would be built on 65 acres on the southwest corner of119th Street and Renner Road.
A competing proposal has been submitted by Barney Karbank, who wants to build on three corners of the intersection. Karbank's plan calls for construction of a 500,000 square foot high- tech office building, 400,000 square foot mid rise office building and 300-room hotel.
The site has also been mentioned as a possible home for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
