Kansas City Gift Mart Seeks Olathe Property

Olathe, KS- KC Gift Mart wants $1.5 million in abatements to open 240,000 sf facility. Competing project wants site for high-tech office project and hotel.

Representatives from the Kansas City Gift Mart are asking Olathe, KS city officials for $1.5 million in tax abatements so that they can move their facility in Overland Park to a site near Interstate 35 and 119th Street.

Officials want to build a facility similar to its 240,000 square foot structure now open at 119th Street and Metcalf Avenue. Representatives and developers from Block & Co. want to construct a building that will have a 60,000 square foot exhibit hall, a 15,000 square foot ballroom and a 6,000 square foot conference center.

Developers want to add retail and office space, as well as upscale restaurants to the site. Plans also call for the construction of a 200 room hotel. The Gift Mart would be built on 65 acres on the southwest corner of119th Street and Renner Road.
