The site is about 30 miles south of Walt Disney World and about 50 miles south of Downtown Orlando. Coral Gables, Fl-based Avatar Holdings Inc. is investing $80 million to get Solivita under way.
Solivita will support Poinciana's growing retail and industrial base comprising 40 operating businesses. Construction is under way on the first phase of a planned 135,000-sf shopping center.
Sales at the shelter project average a home a day, according to Avatar. The price range is $90,000 to $200,000-plus. Poinciana was created in the 1960s by the defunct GAC Corp., but serious development didn't arrive until the late 1980s when Osceola County's growth surged.
