BMC is constructing two buildings on its 50-acre urban campus: a 21-story 500,000-sf tower and a six-story structure with 300,000 sf of space. The new buildings will increase the amount of office space on the software vendor's campus to 1.6 million sf. The new buildings are designed by the DMJM architecture firm of Los Angeles. The buildings, constructed by W.S. Bellows Construction Co., are scheduled to be finished by July 2001.
BMC, which has almost 2,000 employees in Houston, is overcrowded and has leased space in several other office buildings around the city until the new buildings are completed. BMC still has enough land to accommodate future growth. It has three other office buildings on its long-range drawing boards that could eventually place another 1.2 million sf of space in the campus.
The BMC campus is immediately adjacent to the new BriarLake Plaza building, a new 20-story, 500,000-sf tower developed by Tishman Speyer Properties. In 2001, Tishman Speyer will start constructing two new buildings at the site, adding 400,000 sf to the market. Developers say the West Sam Houston Tollway has become popular with tenants because the tollway provides easier commutes to all parts of the city and convenient travel to both of Houston's major airports.
