EUGENE, OR-The two most popular sites for a new federal courthouse in Eugene or Springfield remain in the running following the release of a draft environmental impact statement by the U.S. General Services Administration.
The report does not rule out the former Agripac cannery in Eugene or the lot adjacent Island Park in Springfield, both of which have received public support in their respective comunities. The cannery site was found to have contaminated soil, which could be remediated, according to the reportb.
Three additional locations remain in the running for the 265,000-sf courthouse. Two of them also would require some degree of environmental cleanup. A preference will be highlighted in the final report due out in December.
