Fire Station Slated for 39th Avenue, South of Hawthorne

PORTLAND, OR-The City Council agreed recently to purchase two-fifths of an acre at 1710 SE 39th Ave. for $321,000 for a new fire station; the decision means the city's oldest operating station will be shuttered in a few years

The city of Portland is purchasing two-fifths of an acre just south of Hawthorne Boulevard on 39th Avenue for a new fire station.

The city paid $321,000 for the property at 1710 SE 39th Ave, and plan to complete a seismically sound station by the summer of 2002. City officials say they will try and find somebody willing to move a house on the property that is listed on the national inventory of potentiall historic sites.
