The plan comes at a time when officials along the Hudson River waterfront are voicing concerns about over-development, especially in the wake of a suspicious fire that recently devoured an under-construction multifamily property in nearby Edgewater.

Indeed, the latest proposition has aroused objections from local activists, who are pushing for the site to be used for open space and public walkways. Another factor in the controversy is that the four-story building would rise on a pier. If it moves forward, it would be the first residential development on Hoboken’s piers.
