All of the changes become effective January 1, 2001.

"This shift will allow us to further leverage our resources in New York and to further develop our city-based business initiatives," Swerdlow says. "This shift is a recognition of New York City as a huge driver of business for us and for our competitors." The shift in title and headquarter designations will provide Swerdlow with, as he phrased it, "a seat at the table" in the company's national and international forums.

CB Richard Ellis actually has two offices currently in Manhattan, as well as one on Long Island, but it is the 560 Lexington Ave. address that will become HQ. Swerdlow explained that while there are two different groups at each of the Manhattan offices, they are interrelated and all report to him, as they have since 1995. (There was a third office Downtown, but it has been consolidated into the existing two offices.)

"I'm going to continue to be involved in new business development for the entire East Coast and I'll be making sure our corporate resources are allocated to help these major new initiatives," Swerdlow says. "One example of an initiative we're developing through our New York City offices is a global telecommunications group."

CB has 250 offices internationally and its primary office is in LA. The company works in property sales, leasing and management as well as finance.
